Multivitamin (Injection)

Vitamin supplements for patients receiving parenteral nutrition (TPN).

There may be other brand names for this medicine.

When This Medicine Should Not Be Used:

You should not use this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to a vitamin that is in this medicine. Do not give to children before they have been tested for anemia.

How to Use This Medicine:

Injectable

  • Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given. Keep all medicine out of the reach of children.
  • This medicine will be mixed and added to your parenteral nutrition (TPN) bag which is given IV. An IV infusion is medicine that is put directly into your body through one of your veins. Make sure you understand how to mix the vitamins.
  • This medicine should be given by a person trained to give IV medicine, such as a nurse. Sometimes you, a family member, or friend can be taught to give your medicine.
  • Check the bag to make sure there are no leaks.
  • The vitamins will make your TPN bag turn yellow. This is normal.

If a dose is missed:

  • This medicine needs to be given on a regular schedule. If you miss one day, skip that dose and return to your normal schedule. You should not use two doses at the same time.
  • Missing one dose of vitamins is usually not a cause for concern.
How to Store and Dispose of This Medicine:

  • Store this medicine in a refrigerator. Do not freeze. Take it out of the refrigerator an hour before the time for your dose and allow it to warm to room temperature in a clean, dry place.
  • If you see particles in the solution, You should not use it.
  • Vitamins that are for children should be kept at room temperature.
  • You should be given a special container for your used needles. Keep it where children or pets cannot reach it.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

  • You should not use other vitamin supplements while taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so.
Warnings While Using This Medicine:

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:

If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

  • Dizziness, headache
If you notice other side effects that you think are caused by this medicine, tell your doctor.
