What are the signs and symptoms of the condition?

Menstrual pain usually does not become severe until late in the teen years. Symptoms can begin on the first day of a period. These can include:

  • diarrhea
  • headache
  • heavy menstrual flow
  • lower abdominal tenderness
  • nausea and vomiting
  • pelvic cramping
