What can be done to prevent the infection?

There is no known prevention for nocardiosis.

What are the long-term effects of the infection?

If untreated, nocardiosis can lead to fatal brain infections. The mortality rate for a person with nocardiosis brain infection is 80%.

What are the risks to others?

Nocardiosis is not spread from person to person.
